Experiences

Boquete, Chiriquí

Volcán Barú, the dormant volcano south of the Continental Divide, is one of the only places in the world where you can see both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea at the same time with the naked eye.
Join us for the steep and rugged climb by 4×4 jeep. You will reach the summit of the dormant volcano as you drive up the volcano’s maintenance road. From the summit, you will get a breathtaking panoramic view of both coasts of Panama, the Pacific and the Caribbean for a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to witness the sunrise of a volcano from the highest point in Panama.

Volcan Baru is not for the faint of heart, as it is an extreme climb, at times in sub-zero temperatures and cold wind gusts. The magnificent views from the top are worth it, and say “you’ve been to the highest point in Panama”.

The 4×4 Jeep is a great time saver, only taking approximately 2 hours to reach the summit. It is an extremely rugged off-road experience at 4:00 a.m. in the morning, but the Jeep offers comfortable seating and closed windows, protecting you from the cold. However, the ride is not recommended for people who are pregnant, have back problems or are prone to motion sickness. At the top, you can wait (drinking hot coffee with the vehicle’s hot heater) until the sun makes its first appearance. After a final ascent to the Baru Volcano peak, you can take your panoramic photos and return for two more hours in the Jeep, enjoying the mountain scenery under the new sunlight.

Visit to Indigenous Communities

This tour is designed to take you into a time machine and take you back more than 600 years; to a Central America that only a few were privileged to experience. More than a tour, it is a journey into the lives of the Embera Indians. This morning we head to Chagres National Park located 1:15 hours drive from Panama City. Upon arrival, we will board the famous “piraguas or canoes” which are traditional Embera boats, carved in wood from a single tree trunk.

From this moment on, we will enjoy their music, dances, learn about their culture, traditions and tour the village to visit their usual residences and the “Chaman” or healer of the tribe, will talk to us about the healing power of the plants of the jungle. At lunch time, we will taste fish (product of the day’s catch), fried green plantain and fruits.

The Emberá are excellent artisans, detailed and dedicated and if we wish to carry the memory on our skin, a natural “tattoo” is our option. The indigenous people will paint it with a black ink made from the “Jagua”, the seed of a local palm tree.
