Early in the morning, our representative will pick you up at the hotel to visit Portobelo, where we will be able to appreciate a large part of the old fortification and in the same way part of the bay or entrance invaded on several occasions by pirates and corsairs, among which we can mention one of the most prominent, Henry Morgan. We will visit the Famous Castle or Fort Santiago de la Gloria, which is one of the first forts ever built by the Spanish for the protection and shelter of the gold and silver that crossed the Panamanian isthmus. After that, a tour of the famous customs building is made, whose main purpose was to serve as a collection center for the profits and commercialization resulting from the great fairs, exchanges, that arose in that location and that could last until 40 days, being one of the most important cities in America for everything it involved.

After this historical excursion, we continue with the visit to one of the indigenous communities located in the Chagres National Park. Upon arrival, we will board the famous “pirogues or canoes” which are traditional Emberá boats, carved from wood from a single tree trunk. At the end of the journey we see the village “Emberá Querá” which means Embera Perfume, where our cordial hosts await us.

From this moment, we will enjoy their music, dances, we will learn about their culture, traditions and we will tour the town to visit their usual residences and the “Chaman” or healer of the tribe, will speak to us about the healing power of the plants of the jungle. Arriving at lunch time, we will taste fish (product of the catch of the day), fried green banana and fruits. The Emberá are excellent artisans, detailed and dedicated and if we want to carry the memory on our skin, a natural “tatto” is our option. The indigenous will paint it with a black ink product of the “Jagua”, seed of a local palm.
